Worship His Majesty

And God said, "Let there by light," and there was light (Genesis 1:3 NIV).

Have you ever stopped yourself and wondered about the greatness of our God? Have you ever been at a loss for something to worship Him about?

This past Christmas, I was able to do some snowmobiling with family deep in the heart of the Colorado mountains. At one point in our trip we stopped to admire the view. We were at a point where we could view the entire valley below as well as the mountain ranges to the north, east and west of us. On this clear day we were able to view at least 100 miles away from us in all directions. I thought to myself, "Wow, God just thought this and spoke it into existence." (Which He did on the thrid day of Creation.) I am continually amazed at the diversity of His creation, from the beautiful mountain scenes of Colorado to the detail in the tiniest caterpillar in a tropical rain forest. From my mountaintop view I was able to see only a fraction of the earth, which is only a fraction of the universe. Do you think we serve a big God?

In Chapter 1 of Genesis, we read about God's creating the heavens and earth in six days. Sometimes I like to read that chapter and try to visualize God in the act of creation. How awesome and wonderful it would have been to be able to see Him create everything! One of the acts that really magnifies His greatness to me was on Day One. God created the earth and gave it light. But He did not create the sun until Day Four. How awesome that He lit the earth for three days without a sun. We could debate where the light came from. It could have been His presence or even it could have been a thought of light from God. Who knows? The Scripture says plainly, "'Let there be light' and there was light." Thinking of these things helps me to try to comprehend the strength and power of our God, even though we have such a limited understanding of Him.

Now back to my original quesitons. Do you ever find yourself thinking about how magnificent our God truly is? I know that my seeing and learning about His creation makes it easier to grasp the reality of God's being a big, all-knowing, always present, Holy God. I would challenge you to try to comprehend just how huge our God is. Is your view of God too small?

Now, about if we were ever at a loss to praise Him. When we are at a loss, we can always look around and remember that with a thought and a command, He caused all that we see and all that we know to happen. Most importantly, He created us to be able to be a part of it with Him.

Regardless of anything or any circumstance, we can always worship God purely on the fact that He is worthy of praise.
