Jen moved to Washington D.C. after living in England, but she still longed to be there. She found one significant piece of life missing in her new localitya church home. She soon found that piece when her roommate invited her to Capitol Hill Baptist Church. She even found a bit of England in the pastor, the Cambridge-taught Mark Dever. Six years later, Jen is serving CHBC as the church treasurer.
During the day, she works for Time Life as a financial manager, and her background in accounting equipped her to fulfill her duties as treasurer. Her responsibilities include preparing financial reports for member meetings, reconciling bank statements, and assisting Matt Schmucker with accounting questions.
Though Jen joined the church with the desire to serve well, she also desired to grow and learn. To that end, she has found her understanding of the gospel deepening over the years. That central truth has given her more understanding of scripture as well. Hebrews 11:8 has been a particular encouragement. I love this verse as a reminder of Gods faithfulness to His children said Jen. He has a plan for us, even when we cant see it clearly, and He will faithfully keep all the promises He has made to us.
"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." - Hebrews 11:8
