Christian Management Report
October 2002 Issue (Vol. 26, No. 5)
Focus: A Time of Radical Change!
There is a time for everything
a time to keep and a time to throw away
a time to tear down and a time to build up. Ecclesiastes 3, NLT
"The reason successful companies often fail to respond to new business conditions," states Harvard Business Review, is active inertia, the tendency to persist in previously successful behaviors. w Todays ministry environment is more dynamic than ever, requiring Spirit-led creativity, explains Lyle Schaller, in tearing down ineffective, culturally-bound models and re-inventing, in a sense, the church and how we do ministry. Tersely put, innovate or die! w We need to foster a culture of agility, states Brett Johnson, where change is normal, growth is expected and obedience overrules tradition. w But a great change strategy is not enough, says Peter ODonnell. First we must check our change readiness. Great change requires certain capacities to be in place to assure success. w Hopefully this issue of Christian Management Report will help build those needed capacities for this sometimes dreaded, yet revitalizing thing called change.
