Christian Management Report
June 2003 Issue (Vol. 27, No. 3)
Focus: Fund Development
Title: The Wizard of Grant Making
Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
--Colossians 3:23 NLT
In this issue...we address fund development issues, including foundation grants, sponsorships and donor relations--areas that can mean significant additional funding for your ministry programs. >> It's no longer a secret how foundations make their grant decisions. Monberg removes the mystery by helping us look at the hard questions grant-makers ponder in assessing our grant request. >> More and more ministries are finding a new funding source in sponsorships--and partnerships. This new funding source can be quite significant, as Luis Palau Evangelistic Association has discovered, raising more than $800,000 at its recent Beachfest event. >> As it turns out, customer/donor service may be the most significant source of new funds. One recent study shows that a five percent increase in customer loyalty can produce revenue increases of 25-85 percent. In a tight funding market, retaining donors and building their loyalty may be our most important activity. >> Handley helps us find the source of Jesus' boundless optimism. With that source, we, too, can live joyfully every day! >> Happy reading and learning. -DeWayne Herbrandson, executive editor
