Mountain Christian Church has been involved in relief work in the Gulf right from the start. Three times we were first responders to specific areas - helping those in need, manning distribution centers and building three base camps for volunteers.
Initially our work was cleaning houses by removing debris, demolition and sealing up properties from the elements where possible. We also transported Christmas gifts and furniture donated by Mountain folks down to the Gulf area. Reconstruction started the end of last year and the next phase of recovery will be the construction of new homes. Our church is committed to be a part of rebuilding this area for the long haul. Many members have made multiple trips and the next two trips are already scheduled. As of this date seven separate trips have been made.
Our next scheduled trip:
June 23 - July 1 - Plaquemines Parish for construction
It has been very rewarding to "Be Jesus" to those who have suffered from the effects of Katrina and Rita. If you would like to join us on this trip or get more information, contact Rocky Rhodes at 410-322-8618 or rhodeshome@prodigy.net.
