Joy Junction - 06/20/2007 Lisa Woodward TodayEveryone has a story, including the homeless man you saw on the highway asking for money and the troubled woman you saw last week pushing a cart piled high with all of her belongings. But youve been able to dismiss the plight of some of these individuals youve seen on the street while going to or coming from work by saying, "Well, theyve been there so long they must want to be homeless because otherwise theyd get a job."

Had you ever thought about waking up one day and finding that all your worldly goods had simply...well...vanished? How would you manage if all your creature comforts which you take for granted were suddenly taken away from you? For example, to totally lose the ability to retreat to your own quietly comfortable bedroom, or to be unable, when you awaken in the middle of the night, to go into your own bathroom? Then how about not having your own kitchen to brew a pot of coffee or pour a cold fresh-brewed glass of iced tea when you wanted?

Joy Junction - There is really no such thing as a "normal" day when youre running a homeless shelter. To many, the homeless are nameless and faceless, but to us they are individuals each with a special story. , Recently, I was in the heart of downtown Albuquerque for a Christmas party. Walking back to our car in the bone-chilling cold after the event was over, my assistant and friend Roseann Vona Page saw a homeless man on the side of the street and immediately said to me, "Do you think he needs a place to stay?"
