Scientist Says British Human Cloning Bill Would Allow Human-Chimp Mating
LifeNews.com Editor - A leading scientist says the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill the British parliament is considering is so grisly that it would allow scientists to mate humans and chimps. Dr. Calum MacKellar says he's worried the bill, which promotes human cloning, would allow interspecies mating.
Molecular Biologists Devise Strategy To Starve Brain Tumors
Brain tumor researchers have found that brain tumors arise from cancer stem cells living within tiny protective areas formed by blood vessels in the brain. Killing those cells is a promising strategy to eliminate tumors and prevents them from re-growing. The researchers have found that drugs that block new blood vessel formation can destroy the protected areas and stop cancer from developing.
Scientists studying human DNA have discovered two sequences that may help to forecast the risk of osteoporosis. The research may lead to a future treatment for the disease, which reduces bone density. The discovery may allow researchers to predict the risk of getting the disease in 20 percent of people. "Eventually, a panel of genetic markers could be used in addition to environmental risk factors to identify individuals who are most at risk for osteoporotic fractures,".
Scientists Who Created Ethical Embryonic-Like Stem Cells Moving Forward
The Japanese team of scientists who were one of two groups that created ethical embryonic-like stem cells are moving ahead with the process. Prof. Shinya Yamanaka, and his team of researchers who successfully discovered iPS cells, plan to create them from patients suffering from 10 different diseases.
Would a monkey be better or worse off with a brain made of human neurons? What if the result conferred to the monkey the ability to speak or exercise advanced learning? Would the goal be to create a new sub-human species designed for menial tasks, high-risk jobs or test subjects for experimental drugs and medical procedures? Mixing the cells, organs and body parts of different animals or animals with humans is to create what are called hybrids or chimeras.
