Super Simple Knitting Patterns

Edgebrook Covenant Church - Here is a collection of super simple knitting patterns perfect for beginners -- and fast and easy to make for advanced knitters!

CHRIS'S SUPER SIMPLE SCARF  (Adult or Child)
Size 15 needles
2 8 oz. Skeins of yarn – 1 of color A, 1 of color B  (either worsted weight or bulky – or one strand either worsted or bulky weight and one strand sport weight, which makes a lacier scarf.  For a really lacey effect, just use one strand of a super bulky yarn like Lion Brand Homespun)

This is worked with two strands of yarn at all times – one of color A and one of color B.  Using one strand variegated yarn and one strand solid color yarn makes a great artistic look!  Or use leftover yarn and knit in stripes.  No finishing or fringe is required.  It works up in a simple rib pattern that is the same on both sides.

Cast on 32 or 40 stitches – depending on whether you want a skinnier or wider scarf.
Row 1 – Knit 2, Purl 2 to end of row.
Row 2 – Purl 2, Knit 2 to end of row.
Continue until you have about 24” of yarn left, then bind off in pattern.  That’s it!  You’ve made a scarf!!

Row 8:  Purl across
Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until hat is 8 inches (9 ½ inches) (10 inches) from start, ending on a knit row.
On the knit row – K2 together across the row (this decreases the width)
Next row:  Purl
Next row:  K2 together across the row.
Last row:  Purl across.  Cut a 14 inch tail of yarn, thread a yarn needle with it.  Carefully pull the last row of knitting from the needle and thread the needle through every stitch (easier to do while stitches are still on the needle!).  Pull tightly then whip stitch the seam shut.  Add a pom pom or tassel to the top if desired.

Cut a 18 inch tail of yarn, thread a yarn needle with it.  Carefully pull the last row of knitting from the needle and thread the needle through every stitch (easier to do while stitches are still on the needle!).  Pull tightly then whip stitch the seam shut.  You can add a pom pom if you wish.

DONNA'S SUPER SIMPLE LEFTOVERS AFGHAN
The Seed Stitch pattern makes for a nice texture, and having one strand of yarn a solid color pulls together visually all the leftover yarn pieces.  Remember to always start a new color at the beginning of a row, and tie it on with a firm square knot.  When you are finished, weave the hanging strands into the afghan, and trim off excess.

Size 11 needles (36 inch or 47 inch circular needles work great because of the large number of stitches)
All worsted weight OR all sport weight leftover yarn PLUS one solid color for contrast throughout.  This is worked using two strands of yarn held together through.

Cast on 140 stitches.
Row 1:  K1, P1 across row
Row 2:  P1, K1 across row
Repeat  Rows 1 and 2 until the afghan is between 50 and 70 inches long (depending on how long you want it to be).  Bind off in pattern, and weave in tail.
